First released in 1966—the same year Vans was founded—the Authentic quickly gained popularity among surfers and skaters in Southern California. With its grippy rubber formula, durable construction and signature waffle sole, it had everything skaters needed. Its popularity soon grew beyond skateboarding, particularly among musicians and artists attracted to the understated design and customizable upper. Nearly 60 years later, the Authentic remains the longest-running and most iconic style in the lineup.
