The Vans Era Shoe
The Vans Era shoe made its debut as Vans Style 95 back in 1976. Designed by icons Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta, the Era debuted our padded collar and the first iteration of the Vans "Off the Wall" logo. It instantly became the shoe of choice for a generation of skateboarders and evolved into a low top streetwear staple worn by everyone from surfers to creatives, from the classroom to the boardroom. This signature Vans style stands the test of time.
The Style 95 was the first shoe that we designed specifically for skateboarding. Now called the Era, it was clearly inspired by the Authentic and designed in collaboration with Stacy Peralta and Tony Alva. With its padded collar, reinforced heel, heavyweight canvas, and signature waffle outsole, it was a true game changer. With its unrivaled focus on skate functionality and durability, the Era essentially set the modern skate footwear industry in motion. At the same time, it encouraged innovation by allowing skateboarders to push the limits in shoes that were designed for doing just that.
The Era was the first shoe to feature our Off The Wall logo. And in 1977 we launched the Vans Skate Team. Skateboarders who were pushing their craft into uncharted territory on a daily basis had found their shoe in the Era.
